SERPInsight

Redirect Chain Finder

Analyze up to 50 URLs at once. Detect loops, status codes, and chains.

What does this tool do?

The SERPInsight Redirect Chain Finder is a specialized diagnostic utility that traces the path of a URL hop-by-hop. It identifies every intermediate step between the link you click and the page you land on.

Redirect chains occur when Page A redirects to Page B, which then redirects to Page C. Long chains dilute ranking power (Link Juice) and slow down your site. This tool helps you find these issues so you can link directly from A to C.

How to use it

  • 1

    Paste Your Links

Enter your URLs into the text area (up to 50 at a time). Useful for checking old backlinks or site migrations.

  • 2

    Analyze Paths

Click "Analyze URLs". The tool will trace every redirect step, checking for loops and errors in real-time.

  • 3

    Expand Details

Click on any row in the results table to expand it and see the visual timeline of the redirect path.

How to read the results

Direct Link (0 Redirects)

Ideal. The URL resolves immediately with a 200 OK status. No link equity is lost.

Single Redirect (1 hop)

Acceptable. Often normal for HTTP->HTTPS or www->non-www enforcement.

Chain (2+ hops)

Problematic. Multiple hops (A->B->C) slow down loading and should be consolidated.

Loop / Error

Critical. The browser is stuck in an infinite loop or the page is broken (404/500).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Redirect Loop?
A loop happens when Page A redirects to Page B, and Page B redirects back to Page A. Browsers will stop loading and show an error like "ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS". This tool detects these loops instantly.
Why are redirect chains bad for SEO?
Every step in a chain adds latency (time) to the page load. Search engines like Google also stop following chains after a certain number of hops (usually 5), meaning your final destination page might not get indexed.
How many redirects are too many?
Ideally, you should have zero or one redirect. Google recommends avoiding chains of 3 or more. If you see a chain like A -> B -> C -> D, you should update the link on Page A to point directly to Page D.
Can I export the full redirect path?
Yes! Clicking the "Download CSV" button will give you a spreadsheet that includes the original URL, the final status, the number of redirects, and the full text path of the chain.
